Official Dedication of Stanwood’s Community Veterans Memorial
May 28, 2018 will mark the dedication of Stanwood’s Community Veterans Memorial in conjunction with the national holiday. The Memorial is located on the campus of the Stanwood Area Historical Society at 27130 102nd Ave. NW, adjacent to the Floyd Norgaard Cultural Center. The event begins at 1 p.m.

Keynote speaker Mike Ballard served six years in the military. He was a member of the 101st Airborne in Vietnam where his awards included a Silver Star and Bronze Star with Oak Leaf cluster. After the service he joined the Seattle Police Department and worked as a patrol office and teacher at the Police Academy for almost 30 years. The names of all the 49 fallen honored on the Veterans Memorial will be read aloud following Mike’s comments. This dedication is the culmination of years of planning, fund raising and construction.
