Stanwood and Camano Island Historic Sites Summer Tour, 2025

Join us for the all new summer tour of
Stanwood and Camano Island Historic
Places & Events

July 26th there will be two special walking tours of Stanwood’s historic west end.
Meet up at the Floyd Norgaard Cultural Center for tour #1 at 9 am and tour #2 at 11 am.
  

Along with that will be a book signing event from Noon until 4 pm for the new Stanwood book that will be available as well as all of our publications.  The museum exhibits will be open regular hours 1- 4 pm Saturday afternoon.

Program: The Stillaguamish, A Short River with a Long History

October Lecture Series Program

Sunday afternoon, October 20th, 4 pm
October Lecture Series Program featuring Tug Buse who will present “The Stillaguamish, A Short River with a Long History”
The program will feature his research discoveries long buried in places like the Hudson Bay journals and British Library. It will include both Indigenous and Non-Indigenous History.

Tug (Michael) Buse is a teacher at the Insight School of Washington in Tacoma and has been working on several history research projects in his spare time.

The program will be preceeded at 3 pm by the SAHS Annual Meeting to Elect new Officers and Trustees whose positions are expiring in December 2023 followed by short report on activities in the past year.  Members and potential members are strongly encouraged to join the meeting for a short review of last year’s projects and help plan for next year.

This program will be preceeded by the Annual Meeting of Stanwood Area Historical Society at 3 pm.

Thank you to all who participated in our GivingTuesday event!  We expect to be able to improve our sound and acoustics in the Floyd Norgaard Cultural Center for a greater variety of groups.  Your donation will be stretched much farther for SAHS and Floyd Norgaard Cultural Center programming needs.

Just in time for Halloween we will be having Gretchen Kaehler, Snohomish County Archaeologist/Cultural Resources Coordinator speak on the protections and state laws that pertain to historic, neglected, and abandoned cemeteries and historic gravesites.

Learn about why the role of local historical societies and citizens in protecting historic cemeteries is so important as well as what the challenges are with locating and recording these cemeteries.
