May 28, 2018 will mark the dedication of Stanwood\u2019s Community Veterans Memorial in conjunction with the national holiday.\u00a0\u00a0The Memorial is located on the campus of the Stanwood Area Historical Society at 27130 102nd\u00a0Ave. NW, adjacent to the Floyd Norgaard Cultural Center.\u00a0\u00a0The event begins at 1 p.m.

Keynote speaker Mike Ballard served six years in the military.\u00a0\u00a0He was a member of the 101st Airborne in Vietnam where his awards included a Silver Star and Bronze Star with Oak Leaf cluster.\u00a0\u00a0After the service he joined the Seattle Police Department and worked as a patrol office and teacher at the Police Academy for almost 30 years. The names of all the 49 fallen honored on the Veterans Memorial will be read aloud following Mike\u2019s comments.\u00a0\u00a0This dedication is the culmination of years of planning, fund raising and construction.<\/span><\/div>\n
